Where are you from?

Billerica, Massachusetts

What do you like most about Boston?

I like everything about Boston! The food, the sports teams, the museums, the vibe… I grew up visiting the city regularly and I love it.

How did you decide to become an SLP?

If I’m being honest, I decided to become an SLP by accident. I began college with a different path in mind, but I took a few classes in Communication Disorders, just to fill requirements and ended up loving it! A few classes lead to a few more and I was hooked in no time! I’m so happy I stumbled upon this field.

What are your professional areas of interest?

The thing I love about this field is the variety! I’ve developed a stronger interest in working with language, AAC, cognition, and swallowing/feeding.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to read, go to the beach (even in January), and hang out with my family!

What is your favorite food?

Ice cream, no contest. Any flavor, any time.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

I can touch my nose with my tongue.

Jordyn is a recent graduate of Boston University and has been with our company since May of 2014.  Jordyn has experience working with both children and adults, all of whom have great things to say about her!  She also writes guest posts for our blog.  Jordyn is working on obtaining her Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) and is already a third of the way there!  Read on to learn more about Jordyn:

Where are you from?

Los Altos, California

What do you like most about Boston?

I love all of the historical buildings - I'm such a history geek!

How did you decide to become an SLP?

After I graduated from college, I did Teach for America in Washington, DC, and taught 8th grade reading.  I realized I loved working with language, and wanted to be able to help kids at a one-on-one level, so I started looking into speech pathology.  I shadowed a few SLPs and was hooked!

What are your professional areas of interest?

Higher-level language, alternative and augmentative communication, voice, and dysphagia (swallowing disorders)...but to be honest, I love all aspects of our field and find them all fascinating!

What do you like to do in your free time?

Kayak on the Charles River, hike, bike, swim, and READ!

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

My fingers are double-jointed!

Meet the Therapist: Annie

Welcome to our recurring Meet the Therapist series!  We love to hear about our clients' interests and activities outside of speech therapy, and we thought you'd enjoy hearing a few fun facts about our therapists!

Annie has been with the company since July of 2013, and she loves coming to work to see her clients every day!  She is a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist and has had experience working in school districts, early intervention, and private clinics.  Read on to learn more about Annie:

Where are you from?

Saint Louis, Missouri (go Cardinals!)

What do you like most about Boston?

I live a block away from the Arnold Arboretum and I love going there!  I also like all the old, historical buildings.

How did you decide to become an SLP?

My mom works at a preschool for kids with special needs, and I went in to work with her one day in eighth grade.  I fell in love with watching the speech-language pathologists there and knew that was what I was destined to do!

What are your professional areas of interest?

One of my favorite parts of the job is getting to work with so many different clients. However, I am especially interested in preschool language and pre-literacy, phonological disorders, and social skills.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to run, read, listen to podcasts, cook and bake, and play with my dog, Murray.

If you could choose anywhere, where would you travel to?

I would love to visit Montana and go hiking there.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

I grew up with an old arcade-style Ms. Pac Man video game in my basement.  I have honed my skills over the years and am now a master at Ms. Pac Man!
