Neurodiversity-Affirming Care

At the Speech Language Pathology Center, we are committed to providing neurodiversity-affirming care that respects and celebrates the unique strengths and needs of every individual. Our approach is based on understanding, collaboration, and evidence-based strategies that support communication and self-advocacy in ways that align with a person’s identity and experiences.

What is Neurodiversity-Affirming Care?

Neurodiversity-affirming care recognizes and honors neurological differences such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other cognitive variations as natural parts of human diversity. Instead of focusing on "fixing" or "normalizing" individuals, this approach prioritizes strategies that enhance communication, reduce barriers, and foster self-confidence.

How We Implement Neurodiversity-Affirming Care

  • Sensory-Inclusive Practices: Our clinic provides accommodations and flexible approaches to create a comfortable environment.

  • Strength-Based Approaches: We focus on supporting and enhancing an individual’s natural communication strengths.

  • Client-Led Goals: Therapy goals are developed collaboratively, respecting the preferences and autonomy of neurodivergent individuals.
