Excerpt from Autism Eats website:
“For those of us who have a child with autism dining out can be anxiety provoking and stressful. As parents, we may feel that "all eyes are on us" when our kids exhibit certain behaviors, have outbursts or refuse to sit still. Other diners may be disturbed and the well intentioned wait staff doesn't really know the best way to help out. Many of us decide it is just not worth the effort and that is unfortunate. We created Autism Eats to bring the fun back to eating out. Our dinner parties are held in private rooms of restaurants or function facilities. Food is served buffet or family style so there is no waiting. Music and lighting are adjusted to accommodate those with sensory sensitivity.”

Dyslexia is commonly mistaken for reversing letters/numbers when reading. In reality, the definition of dyslexia is much more general: difficulty reading printed words. SLPs play a major role in evaluating and treating dyslexia, as many speech and language related areas affect the ability to learn how to read, write, and spell. Learn more about the SLP's role in treating reading difficulties below.
Call the SLP Center at 781-792-2700 if you would like to schedule an evaluation to assess reading difficulties, writing, spelling, or language. We are here to help!
We hope you and your families weathered the storm with minimal damage!

A life-saving treatment, called a mechanical thrombectomy, allows doctors to remove a blood clot following stroke. This treatment was previously only available if administered within 6 hours of the onset of stroke symptoms. The American Stroke Association has released new research suggesting that extending the window of time could help patients to avoid serious disability.

Groundhog Day is this Friday, February 2nd!
Punxsutawney Phil, the one and only groundhog, comes out of his burrow in Gobbler's Knob, Pennsylvania, to predict the weather patterns to come. This tradition was established in 1887!
"According to legend, if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring."
We don't know about you, but all of us at SLP Center, are hoping for spring!

There is no easy way to talk with children about the injustices of today's world. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a pioneer for civil rights and fairness. Today we honor his fight, his legacy, and his victories in making the world a more peaceful place.
Andrea McEvoy Spero, director of education at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Institute at Stanford University outlines the best ways to broach the subject, regardless of your child's age.
